How to Play Rummy Online?
Rummy is a card game that you play with two decks of cards and two Jokers. A player needs to make a valid declaration from two piles by picking and discarding them. One of them is a closed deck, where the player cannot see the cards that they are picking, while the other one is an open deck with discarded cards. To win a game of rummy, the players have to group the cards into valid sets and sequences.
Objective
The objective of rummy is to arrange the 13 cards rummy in valid sequences and sets. To win, the player has to make at least one pure sequence out of the minimum of two sequences. The rest of them can be any valid sequences or sets. The player cannot make a valid rummy declaration if there is no pure sequence. This is among the most important rummy rules to remember.
How to Play Rummy - Important Rummy Rules
The Rules of rummy are as follows:
- 2 to 6 players are required to play the rummy game with 2 decks. Every player gets 13 cards, and a random card becomes the wild joker or joker card of the game.
- To form valid sets and sequences, the player has to draw and discard cards at every turn. They can also use the wild joker or the printed joker of the deck to make an impure sequence and sets.
- In Indian rummy, once a player arranges all 13 cards in 2 valid sequences- one being a pure sequence and more groups of sequences and sets. Once that is complete, they can make a declaration and win the game.
Important Rummy Terms
Table: The rummy table is the virtual or the physical table to play rummy. Each table has 2 to 6 players. On MPL, one table can seat a maximum of 5 players.
Deck: A deck has 52 cards and a printed Joker. Each deck has four sets of 13 cards of 4 different suits- Clubs, Hearts, Spades, and Diamonds. All these cards have Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and others from 2 to 10.
Joker Cards and Wild Cards: A wild card is selected randomly after the cards are distributed. Each open deck has a printed Joker. The joker and the wild card are used as replacements for the desired card to make impure sequences and sets. At the end of the game, all these cards carry zero points. For example, if the Joker is a printed one, the Aces can be wild cards.
Sorting: Arrangement of cards at the beginning of the game after the cards are dealt. To prevent mixing of the cards, every user sorts their cards in a certain manner to help form sets and sequences.
Draw and Discard: Each player has 13 cards in every rummy game. In addition to that, there are 2 stacks from which each player can choose a card. In rummy terms, it is called "drawing a card". The moment a player draws a card, they have to get rid of another. It is called "discarding".
Rummy Points: In the rummy card game, there are dedicated points for each and every one of them. Face cards like Ace, King, Queen, and Jack have 10 points each. The cards carry the same points as their face value. For example, a 7 (spades) will have 7 points.
Sequence: A group of three or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order is a sequence. A sequence can be pure or impure. Example: 6 (Clubs) 7 (Clubs) 8 (Clubs)
Pure Sequence: A sequence that contains no Joker is a pure sequence. However, if there is a wild joker of the same suit, it can make a pure sequence. Example: 7 (hearts) 8 (hearts) 9 (hearts)
Impure Sequence: A sequence with the joker card is always an impure sequence. Example: K (Spades) PJ J(spades) 10 (spades), where PJ is a printed joker. Another example: K( Clubs), Q (Clubs), J (clubs), 7 (diamonds), where 7 (diamonds) is a wild card.
Set: A set is a group of three or four cards of the same rank but different suits. You can also use a wild card or a joker to form a set.
Drop: A player can drop out of a rummy game, but they have to pay a penalty. There are different penalty points for dropping out at different times during the game.
How to form a sequence in rummy?
A sequence is three or more consecutive cards that belong to the same suit. Basically, sequences are of two types- a pure and an impure sequence. According to the rummy rules, you need one pure sequence.
Pure Sequence
A pure sequence is formed when a group of three or more cards are of the same suit which are placed in consecutive order. A player cannot use any Joker or wild card while forming these. Here are a few examples:
- 6♥ 7♥ 8♥ (It is a pure sequence with three cards)
- 5♠ 6♠ 7♠ 8♠ (It is a pure sequence with four cards)
Impure Sequence
A group of three or more cards of the same suit where one or more Joker cards are used in an impure sequence.
Examples of impure sequence.
- 7♦ 8♦ Q♠ 10♦ (Here Q♠ has been used as a wild Joker replacing 9♦ to form an impure sequence.)
- 6♠ Q♥ 8♠ 9♠ PJ (Impure sequence with Q♥ as wild joker that is replacing 7♠ and the Printed Joker is replacing 10♠.)

4. Arrange Your Cards In Alternate Colours
Another rummy tip you can use to avoid confusion is to alternate the colours and arrange your cards in the black-red-black or red-black-red colour combination. Doing this reduces your chances of discarding a valid card by mistake.
At the start of every rummy game on MPL, the AI will automatically sort and arrange cards for you in suitable combinations. However, do not be afraid to re-organise your cards from time to time. This opens up more possibilities for forming valid sets and sequences that might have gone unnoticed.
5. Learn What To Discard And Draw

Face Cards are high-value cards, losing which reduces the points tally. While there is a possibility you may not win by losing them, the target eventually is to get your score as low as possible. Keeping it less than 40 may put a player in a better situation than dropping overall.
Common Mistakes a Beginner Makes While Playing Online Rummy:
- Ignoring Sequence Building: Beginners usually focus on building sets only and forget to make sequences, which are equally crucial for winning the game. Starting with a pure sequence is important to increase the chances of winning.
- Hoarding High-Value Cards: Keeping high-value cards to oneself without using them in sets or sequences can break your game Such cards must be discarded tactfully, not getting heaped in the points to be counted as a penalty.
- Overlooking Discards: Beginners often overlook the importance of the cards that their opponents discard, hence losing out on opportunities to form sets or sequences. Beginners.
Advanced Rummy Tips and Tricks
if you have already played a few rummy games and are still struggling to defeat opponents, here are some online rummy tips to get a competitive edge. These strategies are mainly focused on the discard pile:
1. Keep an eye on the discarded cards
You must watch all the cards your opponents discard. It may give an idea about their hand and help you plan moves.
2. Bluffing Techniques
Master the art of bluffing by discarding cards to misguide opponents. Bluff occasionally but cautiously. If the opponent is not picking too many cards from the open deck or making random discards, you can predict they don't have a great hand. This is an excellent time to bluff by pretending to have a great hand.
3. Develop skills to count cards
You should develop the skills to count the cards, i.e., those played and those remaining in the deck. It helps predict the holding of cards by your opponents and improves decision-making.
4. Mastering Game Variations
Understand the different game variations, rules, and strategies. This flexibility may make you an elusive player across any format to win over.
5. Make A Sequence Of 4 Cards
Players usually ignore or overlook the trick of forming sequences and sets using four cards. A sequence or set can be made by more than three cards, with the maximum limit being 4.
6. Confuse The Opponents
While drawing from the open pile, you should know that your opponents are also watching your move. This is where you need to play smart. For instance, you can discard a card that is part of your sequence but isn't needed as you have two such cards.
Well, this is advanced advice you must consider in the game as you polish your skills and win even in challenging games. However, always mold the rummy game trick you would take up according to game dynamics and opponent play style.
Winning Strategies and Tricks
Players need practical Rummy card game tips and tricks for a win-win strategy. Here are some simple yet powerful ways in which the chances of winning the game could be increased:
1. Pure Sequence First
Pure Sequences are mandatory for a valid declaration, so try to make sequences first to keep the number of penalty points down to a minimum.
2. Smart Discards
Discard high-value cards very smartly while playing rummy, making sure you have a minimum number of penalty points in your hand. It is wise not to discard Joker cards as they carry zero points and help in making impure sequences.
3. Use Jokers Wisely
Use your Joker cards wisely, as your win depends on it. If you already have a pure sequence, leverage the available Joker card or wild card to complete the second sequence. And if there are already two sequences in your hands (including a pure sequence), you can use the wild card to make sets/sequences with high-point cards. In Indian Rummy, there are two types of Joker cards – the one that comes with the deck, also known as 'Printed Joker', and the designated Joker, also known as 'Cut Joker.'
4. Don't Wait For Perfect Cards
Make the pure sequence quickly, and avoid waiting for the perfect cards to come. Instead, reevaluate your hand and rearrange it to move towards making a valid declaration.
5. Keep The Middle Cards
Middle cards are versatile as they help form combinations with other such cards instead of low or high-value cards. For instance, 5 of any suit can run with 3, 4, or 6, 7 or 4, 6, while a high-value King card can only make a run with Q, J.
6. Calculate The Probability Of Getting Certain Cards
Getting well-versed in the basic concepts of probability will help make calculative decisions while drawing and discarding cards.
For example, two decks of cards are required to play rummy and 13 cards are dealt to each player. Hence, you can determine the probability of each player's joker cards. If you get more than 4 Jokers while playing against one opponent, you could predict that your opponent has none or fewer Jokers. 12 Jokers, i.e. 4 Printed (2 printed jokers per deck) and 8 Wild Jokers are used in rummy.
7. Stay Calm
Always remain composed in adverse situations, as you need to be calm to make logical decisions and avoid expensive blunders.
All these winning strategies and rummy card game tricks will make you grow as a better player and increase your chances of winning the Rummy Games.

Rummy is one of the most popular card games played worldwide. The popularity of rummy as an online strategic card game has grown exponentially in recent years owing to the entertaining rummy variations. In India, one of the most played online rummy games is Indian Rummy, also called 13 Card Rummy.
The rummy game originated in Spain, spreading to America and the rest of the world. Like any other card game, there are several types of rummy cards game varieties. From Gin Rummy to Oklahoma Rummy to 500 Rummy, many rummy card game variations can be played across the globe.
Amongst rummy types popular in India, the 13 Card Rummy, also known as the 'Indian Rummy,' seems to be the most preferred. Each player is handed 13 cards to start the game. In 13 Card Rummy, the aim is to create a minimum of 2 sequences, of which one must be a pure sequence. The rest can be any valid sequence or sets and sequences.
While in 21-card rummy, the Point Rummy variation is used. The number of people necessary to play this rummy card game ranges from 2 to 6. This game is played with three decks of cards and an additional group of Up & Down Jokers in addition to the normal set of Printed and Wild jokers, according to the 21-card rummy rules.

Popular Types of Rummy Card Games
Points Rummy
Points Rummy is amongst the most played variants of rummy games in India. The maximum point tally for a losing player is capped at 80 points. Points Rummy is generally recommended for beginners and players looking to enjoy a quick game session or two. It is a rummy variation where players play for points with a pre-decided rupee value. The player who makes the first valid declaration wins the game and takes home the cash based on the total points accumulated by the opponent.
Scoring in Points Rummy
- Ace, King, Queen, and Joker – The face cards carry 10 points each.
- Number 2 to Number 10 – All the numbered cards have points equivalent to their face value. For instance, the 2 and 7 number cards have 2 and 7 points, respectively.
- Printed Joker and wild card do not carry points.
Points Rummy Strategies For Beginners
- It is always better to form the pure sequence right at the beginning.
- Since having a pure sequence in hand is mandatory, the earlier it is formed, the easier it becomes to create the other combinations.
- The Joker is a necessary card to have in a game of rummy. The printed joker or a wild card joker comes in handy to make an impure sequence or a set.
Deals Rummy
Deals Rummy is a game of Points Rummy played for a fixed number of deals or rounds. Amongst the different types of rummy, this is a rummy variation where every player gets an equal number of scores at the start of every deal. When the predetermined deals are over, the player with the maximum scores is declared the winner. In deals rummy, players pay a fixed entry fee to join the table. The entry fee of all players is used to form the prize pool.
Deals Rummy Strategies For Beginners
- The strategies mentioned under Points Rummy apply to Deals Rummy and Pool Rummy, as they lay the perfect foundation for winning a game.
- To make a valid declaration, a player must create two sequences, one of which must be a pure sequence.
- Regarding two decks, the player must not use a card of the same value for creating a set; otherwise, it will be considered an invalid declaration.
Pool Rummy
Like Deals Rummy, players in a table pool money to start the game, forming the prize pool. Like other types of Rummy, Pool Rummy is played over several rounds. However, this rummy variation plays the game with a pre-decided points tally. The player to reach the points tally gets eliminated. This continues until only one player is left on the table, who is declared the winner. It is popularly played in two versions - 101 and 201 Pool Rummy.
Scoring in Pool Rummy
(Entry Fee x Number of Players) = Total Winnings
The player who manages to push their opponents to score beyond 101 or 201 points will ultimately be the winner.
Online Pool Rummy platforms take a small percentage of the winnings as a fee for facilitating the gameplay, and the winner takes away the prize money.
Calculating the losing Players' Score:
In these kinds of rummy games, if a player forms two sequences (one pure and one impure), only the points of the ungrouped cards are added. A player who makes an invalid declaration is penalized with 80 points. Also, if a player makes a declaration without any sequence, all the cards' points are added. Further, if a player misses three turns consecutively, they are automatically dropped from the game, which is considered a middle drop for points calculation.
The player that reaches a maximum score of 101 points or 201 points, depending on the pool rummy type, gets eliminated from the table
Pool Rummy Strategies For Beginners
The key to avoiding elimination is to score the least possible points at the end of every game. Strategic discarding of cards is essential in Pool Rummy.
Losing high-value cards like K, Q, A, and J is advisable. This helps lower the overall score if the player fails to win the round.
Other Types Of Rummy Games
There are different types of rummy games that you can play using one deck or two decks of cards. Some of them are listed below:
Gin Rummy
Gin Rummy is another popular variation of rummy. It is slightly different from 13 Card and 21 Card Rummy and is played between 2-4 players. In these types of rummy card game, initially, the players are dealt ten cards instead of 13 to make sequences or sets. A player can win without even having a fully valid set of cards. If the player's point value is less than 10, they can 'knock' for winning. The only restriction in this game is that the sequence has to belong to the same suit. Calculate the score with the difference between the winner's deadwood points and the opponent's deadwood. (Deadwood points are collected when the cards are not consecutive cards/ not in a set or sequence)
Contract Rummy
Another type of Rummy variant based on Gin Rummy is the Contract Rummy card game. The game is played in seven rounds, and players collect a specific number and combination of sequences in every round. As the game progresses, the rounds get tougher. In a game of Contract Rummy, the players are dealt with ten cards in the first four rounds, which then adds up to two more cards- 12 cards in the next three rounds. The rest of the rules are similar to Gin Rummy.
Canasta
The Spanish word 'Canasta' means basket. The game originated in Spain and has remained popular worldwide. It has different variations depending on the number of players. Generally, four players make two teams, using two decks of cards and four jokers. The 2s and all jokers become wild cards. The players must form melds with seven cards of the same rank and play all of them. This is termed 'going out.'
Rummikub
Amongst other rummy variants, this one combines Rummy and Mahjong. Popular in the continents of Asia and Europe, Rummikubh uses 104 tiles with numbered tiles between 1 to 13. Players get 14 tiles each and have to make sets after laying down their tiles. The tiles are in different colours like orange, black, red, and blue. There are two tiles belonging to the same coloured and numbered cards. There are two jokers as well. Each player has 14 to 16 tiles, and when their turn comes, they have to put down the tiles from their racks into sets or runs with a minimum of three tiles. If they cannot play, they can draw a tile. The winner is the player who lays down all the tiles first. Another characteristic of Rummikubh is that players can use the already-played tiles.
Oklahoma Rummy
In such types of rummy card game, players are dealt seven cards instead of 10 in Oklahoma Rummy, similar to the Gin Rummy variant. Players can use Jokers to make pure and impure sequences.
Kalooki Rummy
In Kalooki Rummy, each player is dealt nine cards. In this Jamaican variant, the player with the lowest score is declared the winner. A game is played between 3-8 players, and the aim is to go out by melding all the cards and laying them down.
500 Rummy
500 Rummy is popular in America and can be played between 2-8 players. It is also known as Pinochle rummy or Persian rummy. The player that reaches 500 points first is the winner. In these kinds of rummy, each player gets three cards. In 500 rummy, the cards meld in valid sets and sequences get points, while the remaining cards not a part of the meld get penalty points. Ace has 1 point, the face cards carry 10 points, and Joker has 15 points each. Also, players are allowed to take more than one card to form sets.
Shanghai Rummy
Also known as California Rummy, Shanghai Rummy is played between 3-5 players. In this rummy game, each player receives 11 cards and can use 2 Spades and 2 Clubs as Jokers. However, a player can use a joker in only 3 or 4 card combinations. In this rummy game, players must get rid of all their cards by melding and laying them down.
Dummy Rummy
In this rummy card game, all 2s become Jokers along with the four jokers for two decks of cards. There are several combinations you can make with Dummy Rummy. Each player gets 13 cards and must meld them into valid sets and sequences. If a player cannot form a meld, they have to try again in the next hand. It is one of the basic rummy games.
How Does Joker Work In Rummy
In most rummy versions, a joker is used to substitute for a missing card while making impure sequences and/or sets or adding them to the existing melds. You can also use two jokers in a single meld to create an impure sequence. A joker's value is equal to the card that has been replaced. You can learn more about Joker rummy rules to understand the role of Joker in rummy.
Printed Joker (PJ):
There are two printed jokers in a standard deck of cards. If a rummy game uses two decks, there are four printed jokers.
Wildcard Joker:
One randomly selected card becomes a joker before starting a game. All the suits of that value become the wild card jokers. For example, if 6♣ is the selected card, then 6 of ♦, ♠, and ♥ are all wildcard jokers for that game.
Example:
4♣ 5♣ Joker
4♣ 5♣ 8♦ (8♦ is a wildcard used to represent 6♣)
6♦ 7♦ 8♦ (although 8♦ is a wildcard, here it is used as itself)

Important Indian Rummy Game Terms
All set to play in our online rummy platform? Here are a few terms that you must know before you start playing rummy:
Dealer: In an online game, the dealer is automated and does not participate in either free or cash games. The dealer only conducts and enforces the rules of the card game.
Discard Pile: The discard pile is made up of all the cards discarded by other rummy players. Other players can pick up any top cards from the "Discard Pile" to complete their combinations in rummy games.
Draw Pile: The draw pile card deck in rummy games is formed with the remaining cards after dealing 13 cards to each player. These cards are placed face-down next to the Discard Pile. When players discard a card, they can draw another from this pile.
Wildcard: The Printed Joker is usually used as the Wildcard in every game. This type of card is usually used interchangeably to complete Sets, Impure Sequence, or a Run when the player does not have a card they require.
Set: A Set is a combination of cards that can be formed by using three or more cards of an identical number. All three cards must be from a different suit.
Sequence: A Sequence is a combination formed using three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. A sequence can be pure or impure.
Run: A Run is also a combination of cards that players can form when they are playing the game. The word Run is often used interchangeably with the word Sequence.
Suit: The term refers to the four types of cards in each deck. Clubs, Spades, Hearts, and Diamonds are all known as Suits.
Declare: Upon forming all their required combinations, a player can declare the game, whereupon the players’ points are calculated for their score.
Unmatched Cards: The cards that are left unmatched, and cannot be a part of any combinations by a player are known as Unmatched Cards. After a player declares their game, the points of the winner’s Unmatched Cards are charged to the loser.
Score: The score is the total value of all the cards remaining in other players' hands after one player has made a valid declaration.
Basic Rules to Play Indian Rummy Variants
- Indian rummy games are typically played between 2 to 6 players using one or two standard decks depending on the players.
- Each player gets 13 cards, and the goal is to make a valid declaration after melding cards into sequences and sets.
- Players can make pure sequences (3 or 4 cards in a row of the same suit), impure sequences (3 or 4 cards in a row with a joker), or sets (3 cards of the same value but different suits).
- If there are 2 players, only 1 joker is used in the rummy game. If there are 6 players, 2 jokers are used.
- Jokers can be used to complete impure sequences or sets by substituting them for the missing card.
- One card from the remaining deck becomes a random Joker after dealing.
How to Play Indian Rummy?
Indian Rummy, also called 13 Card Rummy, has three variants - Points Rummy, Pool Rummy, and Deals Rummy. While the rules remain similar for each of these Indian Rummy variants, the gameplay may vary slightly. A maximum of 10 players can play this Indian rummy game variant. Beyond this, playing rummy becomes meaningless and chaotic. When there are up to 6 players, two standard card decks with 52 cards are used with four suits. With seven or more rummy players, we use three standard card decks. Each deck would consist of 52 cards and a joker card. For 2-6 players: 106 cards are used (2 decks with 53 cards each) For 7-10 players: 159 cards are used (3 standard decks)
Here's how you can play the Points Rummy variant:

The goal of Indian Rummy or 13 Card Rummy is to arrange your 13 cards into sets (like three of a kind or a sequence of cards in the same suit). The key is to make valid combinations and declare your cards before your opponents, aiming to have zero points and win the game. Indian Rummy is typically played with 2 to 6 players, and one or two standard decks of cards are used.
Dealing
In the rummy Indian Rummy game, dealing involves distributing 13 cards from a standard deck to each player. While playing rummy online, the cards are shuffled, and the player to the dealer's right picks a random card from the deck (this can be done randomly through RNG). Now this card is placed face up and kept beneath the draw pile. This card is the wild joker in the game. The cards of the same rank are also jokers. For instance, if the random card drawn is 9❤️, then all cards of rank 9 will be wild jokers.
Gameplay
In 13-card rummy, after players receive 13 cards each, they arrange their cards into sets or sequences. The gameplay involves drawing and discarding cards to form valid combinations. A player starts by drawing a card from the draw pile and discarding another card to form the discard pile. Other players take turns to draw and discard a card. The first player to make a valid declaration with at least two sequences, including one pure sequence, wins the game.
What is a sequence?
A sequence is a combination of 3 or more consecutive value cards of the same suit, with the order being Ace-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-Jack-Queen-King-Ace. When you play rummy online, please note that Ace-2-3 is a sequence like Ace King Queen, but not King Ace 2.
What is a set?
In rummy games, a trail or a set is a combination of at least 3 and a maximum of 4 cards of the same rank but different suits. For instance, 8 of hearts, 8 of spades, and 8 of clubs is a valid set, but 8 of clubs, 8 of spades, and 8 of spades won't make a valid set.
Scoring
In a rummy game, the main objective is to reduce points from 80 to zero. After a player makes a valid declaration, the player gets zero points and wins the game. All other rummy players count the points in hand based on the unmelded cards.
According to the rummy points system, the card points are allotted as follows.
- King, Queen, Jack, and Ace carry 10 points each.
- All numbered cards carry the same points as their face value.
- Jokers carry zero points.
Each player's points are calculated after the first hand is declared valid. Players who had dropped either lost 20 points or 40 points, depending on the first drop or middle drop in points rummy variant.
Winning
To make a valid declaration and win the game, one must hold at least two sequences, including a pure sequence. The first pure sequence is also known as the first life and the following sequence as the second life. The remaining cards can be arranged into sets and sequences such that the points of the hand are zero.
A winning hand in a rummy game online can have these four combinations - a set of 4 cards and three sets of 3 cards each or three combinations made of 5 card sequence, a four-card meld, and a card meld or five-card meld, a five-card meld, and three-card meld.
After the player declares their hand, all other rummy players playing the hand count their points and pay off the winner accordingly.
Tips to Win in Indian Rummy
Follow the below tips to play rummy and upgrade your rummy skills to increase your chances of defeating the opponents:
Prioritize Pure Sequence:
Focus on creating a Pure Sequence early in the game. It's a crucial element for victory; making it early saves you trouble later.
Avoid Discard Pile Cards:
Steer clear of picking cards from the Discard Pile. Your opponents can catch on to your strategy when you take a face-up card they discarded.
Consider First Drop:
Opt for the first Drop wisely. It incurs the least points loss compared to subsequent Drops, helping you minimize your score.
Observe Opponents:
Pay attention to your opponent's moves, especially when they pick from the Discard Pile. Understanding their strategy can be a valuable advantage.
Dispose of High-Value Cards:
Discard high-value cards like Kings, Queens, Aces, and Jacks early on if they don't contribute to sets or sequences. You can also form four-card Sequences to manage extra cards.
Use Color Strategy:
Keep an eye on the color of your cards, especially in a 2-player game. If you have more cards of one color, your opponent likely has more of the other. Avoid discarding cards of the dominant color to limit their advantage.

Types of Pool Rummy Games
There are three types of rummy pool games in Indian Rummy on MPL:
- 61 Pool Rummy
In 61 Pool Rummy, the main aim is to keep the score under 61. Players calculate the score for unmelded cards when each round is over. The game continues until the player's score exceeds 61, and then the player gets eliminated. - 101 Pool Rummy:
In 101 Pool Rummy, the objective is to keep your points below 101. Players accumulate points for unmelded cards at the end of each round. The game continues until a player's score exceeds 101, and that player gets eliminated. - 201 Pool Rummy:
Like 101 Pool Rummy, the maximum limit is 201 points on 201 pool. Players strive to keep their scores below this limit to stay in the game.
Each variant adds a unique twist to the Pool Rummy game, providing players with diverse options and challenges.
Pool Rummy Rules
Most Pool Rummy rules are simple to follow and quite similar to Points Rummy. Knowing and remembering these rules of rummy are vital if you wish to outsmart your opponents and have a better chance at winning. This is a helpful list you need to know before you play the game online.
- Pool rummy online has two types of tables: 2-player and 6-player tables.
- Each game begins with a toss that determines which player will play first.
- Before each game starts, a Joker card has to be selected randomly from the deck.
- Each player shall be dealt a hand of 13 cards.
- The prize pool money is created by putting the entry fees from all the players together.
- According to pool rummy rules, elimination from the game is done when a player’s total points reach the points limit. In the case of 101 Pool Rummy, the limit is 101 points, and in the case of 201 Pool, the maximum points limit is 201 points.
- One deck is used for 2-player tables, and two decks are used on 6-player tables.
How to Play Pool Rummy Game?
Pool rummy online can be played between 2 and 6 players. The game is played for a fixed sum of winnings, created by pooling the players’ entry fees together to create a prize pool. Here's how to play pool rummy game online:
1. Dealing
Each player receives 13 cards at the start. The stack of remaining cards (Draw Pile) is placed face-down at the centre of the table. A random card is picked up and placed face-up underneath the Draw Pile. This card is the wild card joker for the rest of the deal. The player at the right of the dealer starts the game.
2. Forming Card Combinations
After each player gets 13 cards, they can make their preferred combinations. A valid declaration requires the player to have at least two Sequences, one Pure and the other Pure/Impure. Your primary objective should be to form at least one pure sequence and meld the remaining cards into pure/impure sequences and sets.
3. Making a declaration
When a player has made at least two sequences, and other sets or sequences, they can make a valid declaration. The player can click the ‘Declare’ button to declare. Upon declaring, their combinations are reviewed. If the player has made an invalid declaration, 80 points are added to their score, pushing them closer to elimination from the table. If they have made a valid declaration, the points value of their opponent’s unmatched cards is calculated. The winner of the deal gets the best possible score of 0 points.
Essentially, 201 and 101 Pool Rummy games are pretty similar, with the difference in the number of points. Both figures represent the score at which a player can get eliminated from the table. In 101 Pool, a player gets eliminated if they reach 101 points. Similarly, in 201 Pool, a player is eliminated when they get to the score of 201 points.
Since the objective of the Pool Rummy variant and most types of rummy games is to have the lowest possible score to win, having an upper limit for points is a means to progress the game. This way, players are eliminated until there is only one winner left.
How is Score Calculated in Pool Rummy?
The score calculation in a game of Pool Rummy is fairly simple and easy to understand. The winner who makes a valid declaration gets 0 points, the best possible score. If the winner earns a valid declaration but has some unmatched cards, then the value of the unmatched cards is deducted from the total of their opponents’ points. The other losing players get a score assigned to them based on the value of all their unmatched cards. The value of each card in a game of online Pool Rummy is as follows:
After the scores of all the players are calculated at the end of the game, their winnings are computed with the following formula:
(Entry Fee x Number of Players) = Total Winnings.
The player who manages to push their opponents to score beyond 61, 101 or 201 points (based on the variant) will ultimately be the winner.
Calculating the Losing Players’ Score:
If a player forms two sequences (one pure and one impure), only the points of the ungrouped cards are added. A player who makes an invalid declaration is penalized with 80 points. Also, if a player declares without any sequence, all the cards’ points are added. Further, if a player misses three turns consecutively, they are automatically dropped from the game, considered a middle drop for points calculation.
Depending on the pool rummy type, the player that reaches a maximum score of 61 points, 101 points or 201 points gets eliminated from the table.
Pool Rummy Tips
Here are some easy ways to gain an advantage over your opponents in an online Pool Rummy game. You can use these rummy tips and tricks at your discretion, and they can be of great help when applied correctly.
Prioritise a Pure Sequence
The first and most essential tip to win in a game of pool rummy is to ensure you prioritise a pure sequence. Without it, you cannot make a valid declaration, and making this sequence first eases the rest of your game.
Keep Track of the Opponent's Cards
Keep track of the cards your opponents are discarding. This is immensely beneficial to predict and counter their strategy. It is one of the most essential skills a Pool Rummy player can develop through experience.
Make Bigger Sets and Sequences
You can make sequences and sets of more than three cards. One of the most common Pool Rummy mistakes is people forgetting they can make bigger sequences and sets to reduce the number of unmatched cards in their hand.
Get Rid of High-Value Cards
Another important Pool Rummy tip is getting rid of high-value cards as soon as possible. If they remain unmatched when you have to make a declaration, they can drive your points total up. So, you should either use them to make the sequences and sets or let them go if they aren’t helpful. Having cards with low value helps avoid this mishap.
How Does The Drop Option Work?
The word Drop means to either wilfully withdraw from the deal or miss your turn to play. Players often withdraw from the deal upon determining they do not wish to continue with the hand they were dealt. In such a situation, they can choose to Drop out by clicking the Drop button on the screen. This variant has two kinds of drops, unlike other Indian Rummy games with three.
The drop score is different for both pool rummy formats. The 101 Pool Rummy game allows players to choose a First Drop with a 20-point drop score and a Mid Drop with a 40-point drop score. In 201 Pool Rummy, First Drop leads to 25 points, and Middle Drop leads to 50 points. The First Drop means a player can withdraw from the game without picking a single card. After picking up your first card, choosing to drop any time will result in a Mid Drop.

What is Points Rummy?
Points Rummy is an exciting and fast-paced version of the Indian rummy game. This is one of the 13 card rummy rummy game variants, along with deals rummy and pool rummy. Also known as 80 Points Rummy or 13 Card Rummy, this game typically involves 2 to 6 players competing for points, each with a pre-decided rupee value. Depending on the number of players, one or two standard decks are used, featuring one printed joker per deck. The player who makes a valid declaration first becomes the winner with zero rummy points, and the total points of their opponents determine their winnings.
Points rummy download is now simple and hassle-free. MPL brings exciting matches and tournaments where you can compete with fellow participants and win real cash.
Basic Rules of Points Rummy
- As per the rules of rummy, players aim to earn points, and each point has a specific rupee value. Before starting, each player must bring a minimum amount to the table.
- Every player gets 13 cards randomly, and the game begins when the first card is placed face-up in the open deck.
- The remaining cards are kept face-down in the closed rummy deck. At the start, a joker card is chosen randomly, called a wild joker.
- The goal is to organize all 13 cards into sequences and/or sets, including one pure sequence and one impure sequence.
- Players take turns picking or discarding cards to complete their sets and sequences. Jokers can be used to complete impure sequences and sets.
- To make a valid declaration, a player must group their cards into sets/sequences and click on the 'Declare' button.
- It's compulsory to declare at least two sequences to finish the game, with one of them being a pure sequence.
- If using two decks, the same card can't be used twice in a set (e.g., 8♠ 8♠ 8♥ is invalid).
Points Rummy Rules For Jokers
- In a 13-card rummy game, there are 7 Jokers - 2 Printed Jokers and 5 Wild Card Jokers. Out of the 5 wild jokers, 4 wild jokers can be used by players in the game, while one is placed under the closed deck for all players to see.
- In a 21 Card game, there are 15 Jokers- 2 Printed Jokers and 7 Wild Card Jokers, with 6 value card Jokers.
- You cannot use a printed joker or wild card to make a pure sequence, as that would make it impure.
How to Play Points Rummy?
Points rummy is one of the easiest Indian rummy variants that is also beginner-friendly. To learn how to play points rummy, here are the simple steps every player must know:
Card Points Value
In a points rummy game, the maximum number of points a player can get, including the joker, is 80. The rummy points table calculation is as follows:
- Ace, King, Queen, and Joker – All the face cards carry 10 points each.
- Number 2 to Number 10 – All the numbered cards have points equal to their face value. For instance, the 2 and 7 number cards have 2 and 7 points, respectively.
- Printed Joker and Wild Joker carry zero points in the rummy card game points system.
Objective
To play points rummy game, the goal is to reduce the points in hand to zero by melding all 13 cards into valid sets and sequences. Players try to arrange their 13 cards into valid sets and sequences. The winner is the first person to declare with zero points. The other players get points based on the cards they still have. So, the aim is to have as few points as possible to increase the chances of winning the game.
Deal
After you pay the entry fee, the game begins when two or more players join the table (based on whether you are playing on a 2-player table or 6-player table). At the beginning of the game, a 13 Card hand is dealt to each player. A closed deck called the Draw Pile is placed at the centre of the table. A card is picked from the top of the Draw Pile and placed at the bottom of the pile as the game's wild joker. Another card is then picked and placed face-up at the centre of the table to form the Discard Pile, where players can discard their cards during the game and draw another from the Draw Pile to replace them.
Gameplay
As soon as the game begins, all the players must make card combinations, melding them into sequences and sets. You must make at least two sequences, including a pure rummy sequence. Below is an example of making combinations with a pure sequence:
To make a valid declaration, you must have at least two sequences, including one pure and the other one can be Pure or Impure. If you make a valid declaration and have no unmatched cards, you will win the best possible score – 0 rummy points. If a player makes a valid show but has other unmatched cards, their point value is deducted from the total card points of each player.
How to Win in Points Rummy?
A player can win the points rummy game by making a valid declaration and being the first one to announce on the table. The following mandates are required to make a valid declaration:
- The declaration must have two sequences, one of which must be pure. The player cannot make a valid declaration without a pure sequence. Depending on the cards, the rest of the sequences can be pure or impure.
- The player can use printed jokers or wild jokers to form impure sequences and sets.
- Besides sequences, players can make sets in a points rummy game.
- Be sure you are the first one to make the declaration if you want to be the winner.
How are Winnings Calculated in Points Rummy?
The winning player is the one to make the first valid declaration, and the winner gets a zero score. The winning amount of the winner is calculated using the below formula:
(Total Points of All Opponents) x (Rupee Value of All Points) = Winnings.
Calculating the losing player's score
- The points of the losing players’ ungrouped cards are calculated when a player makes a valid declaration. For instance, a losing player has three ungrouped cards, which are 7 of Spades, Ace of Hearts, and 9 of Spades; the player gets 7+10+9 = 26 points as a penalty.
- If a player hasn’t made a pure sequence, the point value of all the cards in hand will be added to calculate the penalty points.
- According to points of rummy, the maximum cap is 80 points. Even if the calculated score is more than 80 points, the maximum points total can only be 80 points for each player.
- If a player has made one pure sequence, the point value of only the ungrouped cards is added to calculate the penalty points. Also, the sets aren't counted till a player has at least two sequences, including a pure sequence. So, if a player makes a pure sequence and a set, but not one more sequence, the value of his ungrouped cards, including any set, will be added to calculate penalty points.
Calculating Drop Points in Points Rummy
In a rummy game, a player can choose to leave the game. The player has to use the "Drop" option where they can exit the game without losing a huge margin. When you have a weak hand or bad cards, go for it.
- First Drop: When a player drops without picking any card from the Draw Pile, it is the first drop. The penalty is 20 points.
- Middle Drop: When the players drop out after picking at least one card, it is the middle drop. The penalty here is 40 points.
- Consecutive Misses: The players are automatically dropped out from the game after missing three consecutive turns. This is considered as the middle drop, with a penalty of 40 points.
Tips To Win Points Rummy
- Discard high-value cards that are not part of melds or are difficult to meld.
- Use the Joker effectively to create impure sequences and sets.
- Begin with forming a pure sequence, which is mandatory and can reduce penalty points if another player declares.
- If you feel you have been dealt a weak hand and you are considering a drop, it’s wise to go for the First Drop. For a first drop, you get 20 penalty points. If you go for a middle drop or miss three consecutive turns, you get 40 penalty points.
- Pay attention to the cards your opponents are discarding. You can predict which type of cards they are holding and avoid discarding those cards.

How to Play 21 Cards Rummy?
If you know how to play rummy with 13 cards, the 21 Cards Rummy game is easy to understand. Here's how you can play this game:
Objective
In 21 Card Rummy, arranging your cards involves forming valid sets and sequences. A valid set is a group of cards of the same rank but different suits, and a valid sequence is a group of consecutive cards of the same suit. Organize your cards into sets and sequences to declare and win the game.
21 cards rummy is one of the most engaging rummy card games; however, it is one of the most elaborate rummy games. Just like 13 cards rummy, the 21 cards variant of the game is also widely played in India on different occasions due to the entertainment it offers. Here are a few steps that you should follow to play 21 cards rummy game and understand the gameplay:
Gameplay
In a 21 card rummy game, there are 3 decks of 53 cards each, and it includes 3 printed jokers. A card is pulled out from the top of the closed deck and placed face-up at the bottom of that deck. This is called a wild joker.
Each player is dealt 21 cards which should be arranged in valid sequences and sets. The players can pick a card from a closed deck or open deck and discard one card to the open deck.
21 cards rummy is played in the same way as other rummy games. However, it has some important concepts like dublee, tunnela, and upper and lower jokers.
Scoring
Point Calculation for cards
Each card in 21 card rummy carries points as follows:
- J, Q, K, and A carry 10 points each.
- The number cards have the same value as their face value. So, 9 of any suit carries 9 points.
- Joker cards carry zero points.
Points calculation for unmatched cards (Deadwood)
- The cards that are not melded in any group are called deadwood.
- The total points for each player will be calculated based on the number of unmatched cards.
Points for valid sets and sequences
- A player gets zero points for the round if they combine all the cards at hand into valid sets and sequences.
- The player declaring with a valid hand scores zero points.
- A valid meld contains at least three pure sequences (without a joker) and an impure sequence (with a joker.)
Drop Option
Drop is crucial within the game if you want to play safe. Every player is offered an option to drop out of the game after every round. The type of drop depends on whether the player has picked a card from the open or closed deck. There are two types of drops available:
- First drop: When a player drops from the game during the very first round without picking up any card from any pile, it is called the first drop. It makes the player lose 30 points.
- Middle drop: When a player drops from the game after picking up one or more cards from the discard or draw pile, that player loses 70 points.
Winning
The player with a positive score at the end of the game will receive the prize money. The prize money is determined using the following formula:
Prize money=Positive score of the winner×Point value−Rake amount applicable
For instance, if there are 5 players in a ₹3 per point 21 cards rummy game, and player number 1 successfully declares, the other players have -5, -15, -25, and -35 points.
In this example, the winning player's prize is calculated as follows: 3×(5+15+25+35)=₹2253×(5+15+25+35)=₹225. This amount will be credited to the winner's account after deducting the rake according to Classic Rummy’s rules.
This whole calculation seems weird. How can 2253 x 5+15+25+35 = 225??? Also, what is classic rummy doing in MPL content??
Winning amount = Positive score of the winner x the point value – Rake amount applicable
Example: In case 5 players are playing a game with ₹ 3 per point 21 cards rummy game and player number 1 makes a valid show, then the other players get -5, -15, -25, and -35 points.
In this case, the winning player will get a prize that will be calculated as follows: 3 x (5+15+25+35) = ₹ 240- (Rake amount). The rake amount depends on the platform that the player has chosen. After deducting the rake, this amount will be credited to the winner's account.
Non-Winning Player
Here are the rules listed to calculate non-winning players. When the game ends, the player's points are calculated by adding the value of unmelded cards. However, there might be some changes based on a few circumstances:
- If there are no pure sequences, then all the cards’ value is counted.
- If there are only 2 pure sequences against the rule of three, the melded sequences will be considered before calculating the score.
- If there are 3 pure sequences, the sequences and sets melded with jokers will also be considered before calculating the lost points.
- When all this is done, the ‘points won’ section of every player is filled up. If the points in that list are negative, the player is a losing player. If those points are positive, then the player is winning.
Card Arrangement Strategies
Minimum Three (3) Pure Sequences
- A valid declaration can be made with at least three pure sequences, each with a minimum of three cards. The remaining cards can be arranged in sets or sequences. Tunnela is also considered a pure sequence.
Minimum Three (3) Tunnelas
- According to 21 cards Rummy rules, declare a minimum of three tunnelas; the remaining cards do not need a specific order. They can either be ungrouped or grouped into a single set.
Minimum Eight (8) Dublees - Declare at least eight dublees; the remaining cards do not need a specific order. Each pair of dublees should be arranged in individual groups during the declaration as specified in the 21 cards rummy rules.
Minimum 8 Jokers
- Declare eight jokers in a single group; the remaining cards do not need a specific order.
Understanding Points in 21 Card Rummy
Each card carries certain points, which are discussed below:
- J, Q, K, and A of any suit carry 10 points each.
- The number cards have the same value as their face value. So, 9 of any suit carries 9 points.
- Joker cards have zero points.
- As discussed earlier, once any player on the table makes a valid declaration, that player wins the game. Once it is done, the scores for all the other players are calculated in the following manner:
- If a player goes for the first drop, he/she loses 30 points.
- If a player goes for a middle drop, he/she loses 70 points.
- The player who makes a valid declaration gets a score that is the sum of the scores of all losing players.
- The player who wins the game gets positive points in the ‘points won’ section.
Winning Strategies
There are many tips and tricks that you can apply while you are playing 21 card rummy:
- Understanding the rules: The 21 card rummy game has some specific rules that you have to understand to make a valid declaration. There are certain terms like tunnelas, dublees, etc., to make the game simple and give more choices for forming certain combinations.

- Creating pure sequences as soon as possible: The first step to form a valid declaration is to make pure sequences as soon as you get the cards.
- Keep the middle cards in your hand: Middle cards help create combinations easily. For, e.g., you have a 7, which can be melded as 5, 6, 7 or 7, 8, 9. These will help create quicker combinations.

Ensure you play enough practice games before entering cash contests or tournaments.
Holding High-Value Cards
If you're dealt many high-value cards in rummy, like A’s, Ks, Qs, and Js, and they remain ungrouped, discard them early to avoid penalties. High-value cards carry 10 points each, and keeping them ungrouped can lead to substantial losses.
Wild Jokers
Don't discard wild jokers quickly; they play a crucial role in the game. Mistakenly discarding a wild joker reduces your chances of forming required combinations quickly. Take a closer look at your cards before discarding them to avoid this common mistake.
Making Invalid Declarations
Rushing to declare your cards without proper inspection can lead to an invalid declaration, incurring an 80-point penalty – the highest in a rummy game. Thoroughly check your cards before declaring to avoid this costly mistake.
Ignoring Opponent's Moves
Multitasking is essential in rummy. Keep a close eye not only on your cards but also on your opponent's moves. Observing their strategy helps you anticipate their moves and avoid falling for their tricks. Ignoring your opponent's moves can lead to losing the game
13 Card Rummy vs 21 Card Rummy
Both games are similar, but they have a different way of playing. The big difference between the two is the number of cards dealt to each player. In 13 card rummy, players are dealt 13 cards, while in 21-card rummy, players are dealt 21 cards.
So, 13-card rummy uses fewer decks than 21-card rummy. Making combinations in 13-card rummy is easier as compared to the 21-card rummy game due to fewer pure sequence requirements. Moreover, the terms used in 21-card rummy are different and take time to remember.
Therefore, if you are a beginner, starting with the 13-card rummy game is easier.

Basic Terminologies in 13 Card Rummy
Before you start to play rummy, you must learn the basic terms used in the 13-card rummy game. Here are some of the most common rummy terms used in the game:
Open deck: The discarded cards form the open deck. When the top card from the closed deck (Draw Pile) is picked and kept face-up beside the draw pile, it forms the open deck. The open deck is also called the Discard Pile.
Closed deck: The cards that remain after dealing are placed face-down to form a closed deck.
Dealing: The distribution of 13 playing cards to each player at the beginning of the game is called dealing.
Sequence: A combination of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit forms a sequence. There are two types of sequences - pure and impure. To win a rummy game, a player must have at least two sequences, including a pure sequence.
Set: A set is formed with three or more cards of the same rank but of a different suit. Jokers can also be used in sets.
Pure Sequence: A pure sequence consists of a group of three or more cards of the same suit, arranged in consecutive order. A wildcard or a printed joker cannot be used to make a pure sequence. For example, K(Clubs), Q (Clubs), J(Clubs), 10 (Clubs) make a pure sequence.
Impure Sequence: An impure sequence is a group of three or more cards of the same suit and includes at least one wildcard or joker as a substitute for one of the cards. For example, K (hearts), Q(hearts), J(hearts), and Joker make an impure sequence.
Melding: Arranging the cards in sequences and sets is termed as melding.
Drop: When a player quits using the ‘Drop’ option, it is called a drop. It is wise to drop if you have a weak hand. There are two types of drops – first drop and mid drop. When the player drops at the beginning of the game without picking a card from the Draw Pile, it is termed the first drop. If the player drops anytime after picking at least one card from the Draw Pile, it is termed as the mid-drop.
Joker: One of the most crucial cards in the 13-card rummy game, the Joker is used as a substitute for missing cards in an impure sequence or set. There are two types of jokers - printed and wild.
Deadwood: The cards that aren’t a part of any combination are called deadwood.
Variants of 13 Cards Rummy
The 13-card rummy game, also called Indian Rummy, is popular due to its three fun rummy variations - Points, Pool, and Deals Rummy. Starting with Points rummy (the easiest rummy variant for beginners), here are the three variants of 13-card rummy:
Points Rummy
Points rummy is one of the most basic rummy variants where the players play for points starting with a predefined rupee value. The player who wins the game has to get zero points while making a valid declaration. The points of the losing players are calculated based on the cards that are not grouped in any sequence or set. The winning amount is calculated basis the sum of all points lost by opponents multiplied by the pre-decided rupee value of points.
Pool Rummy
In the pool rummy cash game, the players enter the table pool with a certain fee to begin the game. Pool rummy involves two variations – 101 and 201. In the 101 pool, the first player to score 101 points gets eliminated. Similarly, in the 201 pool, the first to score 201 points gets eliminated. The player who survives until the end with the least or zero points wins the game. The winning amount is calculated based on the entry fee multiplied by the number of players.
Deals Rummy
Similar to the points rummy game, deals rummy has a slight modification. The players play for a fixed number of predetermined deals. The winning amount is calculated based on the entry fee multiplied by the number of players.
How To Play 13 Card Rummy?
Objective
In this game, the goal is to arrange and show cards in a specific way. According to the 13-card rummy game rules, you must have at least two sets of cards in a particular order, one of which must be in a pure sequence. The other sets can be in any order.
The ultimate goal is to be the first player to meld all the cards and make a valid declaration to win the game.
13 Cards Rummy Rules
According to 13-card rummy rules, a standard deck of 52 cards is used.
2-6 players can play the rummy game.
Rummy rules state that a player must make a minimum of two sequences, including one pure sequence. This makes a valid declaration for the player.
If a player cannot make valid sets and sequences that include a mandatory pure sequence, that becomes an invalid declaration.
Each card has a different score. Face cards like A, Q, K, and J have 10 points each. The number cards have their face value.
The first drop is 20 points while the middle drop is 40 points. The winner is declared when the player has zero points.
Gameplay
13-card rummy is the most popular rummy game owing to the simple rules and easy gameplay that makes it ideal for beginners as well. While there are a few differences between how each rummy variant is played, the basic gameplay and rummy rules are pretty similar. Learn how to play 13 cards rummy step-by-step below:
Dealing
When the game starts, each player is dealt 13 cards. The dealer deals the cards to every player on the table in a live game. In online games, the cards are dealt automatically.
Sorting
Once you receive 13 cards, you can sort the cards to ease the melding process. While playing rummy online, you also have the Sort button that automatically arranges the cards in hand.
Drawing & Discarding
After sorting the cards, the players begin to make sets and sequences. They can draw cards and discard unwanted cards in hand. Each player takes turns drawing a card from the draw or discard pile. The player simultaneously discards one card and places it face-up in the discard pile.
Declaration
After you have created valid sets and sequences using all 13 cards in hand, you can make a declaration. Discard the 14th card, using the Discard button, to the finish slot and declare your hand to finish the game.
After a player declares the game, their combinations are checked and validated. As per the rummy rules, a player must make at least two sequences, including a pure sequence. The other cards can be melded into sets or impure sequences.
Winning
The most important step to win a 13-card rummy game is to make sequences and sets for a valid declaration. Deciding the winner in each variant of 13-card rummy may vary slightly.
In the points rummy game, the first player to make a valid declaration with zero points in hand wins the game.
In the pool rummy game, the first player to meet the game objective (make a valid declaration with zero points in hand) wins the game. Players must try not to reach a score of 101 points in the 101 pool (201 points in the 201 pool) to avoid getting eliminated from the game.
In the deals rummy game, the player with the highest chip count at the end of the deals wins the game.
Bonus Tips:
Points Rummy is the quickest version of Indian Rummy, where each point has a set money value in cash games.
Deals Rummy is played for a specific number of rounds, and the winner of a round has zero points.
Pool Rummy is the longest version of Indian Rummy, and it goes on for multiple rounds. Players with scores of 61 points (in 61 pool), 101 points (in 101 pool), or 201 points (in 201 pool) get knocked out. The last player remaining becomes the winner.
13 Card Rummy Points Calculation
In a 13-card rummy game, the winner gets zero points, which is good because points are considered bad. If you declare your cards correctly, you get zero points and win. Losing players get points based on the cards left in their hands. In points rummy, the most a player can get is a negative score of 80 points.
If you have bad cards and want to avoid losing a lot of points, you can use the "Drop" button to leave the game early. If you drop at the beginning, it's a "first drop" and you get 20 points. If you drop in the middle, it's a "middle drop" and you get 40 points.
In 13-card rummy, cards are ranked from high to low: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2. Face cards (K, Q, J) and Aces are worth 10 points each. Numbered cards are worth their face value. For example, the King of Hearts is worth 10 points, and the 5 of Spades is worth 5 points.

Here are tips to improve your 13 cards rummy game:
Sort Your Cards: Arrange your cards at the start. Sorting helps you see potential combinations and manage your cards better. Use the 'Sort' option to automatically sort the cards in hand on MPL Rummy.
Start with a Pure Sequence: A pure sequence (consecutive cards of the same suit) is mandatory to make a valid declaration to win. Focus on creating this first; no joker can be used in it.
Discard High-Value Unmatched Cards: High-value cards can ruin your game if they don't fit into any sequence or set. You should discard any unmatched high-value cards like A, K, and Q early in the game instead of waiting to use them in a sequence or set.
Observe Opponent Moves: Monitor your opponents' moves. Keep an eye on the cards they pick from the open deck and the ones they discard. This may help you discover their strategy and the melds they may aim for. You don’t want to help them win unintentionally by discarding the cards they need the most.
